Plant Base Release Status (April 2008)

New version, 1.5.7, released 18th April 2008

This release has no major program changes since version 1.5.6, but a number of small changes have been made that further supports the synchronisation of databases with our new Plant Base Mobile product. These include some internal format changes to the database itself.

None of these have any negative impact on the main program, in fact a few efficiency improvements were made during the coding. This new version will also still work with databases from older releases.

The database includes some new plant data and pictures, as well as many amendments to existing records. These are the first data changes since the 1.5.5 release.

Because of the database format changes, it is recommended that all users should update to 1.5.7 if possible.

Version 1.5.7 is available for download now and it will be supplied to all new customers ordering the CD.

Existing users can download an update patch file from this web site, which can be applied to any installed 1.4.x (or 1.5.x) version. Note however, that this does not include changes to the plant data, which are available on the new CD or full product download. See Upgrading Plant Base for more information about update options.

The current release has 9,898 plants and 4,561 pictures. However our eventual aim is for this to grow considerably and loading additional data and images will be an ongoing process for some time to come. For this reason all registered users can update to new versions at no additional cost.

This product is English language only (we would love to offer other language editions at some time in the future).

Installation is supported under MS Windows 32-bit operating systems (95 to XP, also Vista), we are actively looking at other platforms, for development when resources allow.
(N.B. there is now a working edition for Windows Moble handheld devices)
