Plant Base was developed in the UK, but is not limited to any area or type of plant. We have users from North America to Southern Spain, including amateur gardeners, plant collectors, horticultural and landscape professionals.
Rather than supplying a static product, from the outset we developed Deeproot Plant Base as a flexible plant encyclopedia system which can adapt to your personal needs. It is supplied complete with data about a comprehensive range of plants, from trees and shrubs to herbs, grasses and ferns. However, users of Plant Base have total control over the content of the database on their own computer.
The Plant Base application is straightforward with emphasis on a functional, no-nonsense approach to usability and considerable flexibility. There are no frills, but it is fast, powerful, simple to run and uses no unnecessary computer resources.
Iinstallation is normally entirely on the PC's hard-drive, a CD is not required at run time. For systems with insufficient disk space, the plant pictures can be read directly from the CD, but it is not the recommended option.
Each plant is described within the database by a large number of standard elements such as size and colour, accompanied by text notes and pictures. Plants may be found or browsed by name or located by powerful search selection criteria. Plant varieties are alphabetically sequenced by botanical name (Latin, binomial), but can be located by their common name if preferred. There is also allowance for alternative names (synonyms).
The plant data is fully editable by the user and can build to create a personal plant information resource. In fact, whilst we supply Plant Base with thousands of plant records and pictures, you may optionally install with an empty database to start with and then build your own choice of plant information and images. In this way Deeproot Plant Base is adaptable to specific needs, from providing occasional general purpose reference to cataloguing a specialist plant collection.
Many good quality plant pictures are provided and it is also very easy to add more, using normal jpeg image files.
Personal changes and additions can be preserved, for use with new versions or transfer to other machines.
