Short growing variety that has distinctive deep red new leaves in spring, ageing to green in summer. Deep blue flowers in late summer or early autumn.
Best in cool, moist and fertile soil but generally fairly tolerant. Full sun or part shade.
By division in autumn or late winter, can be slow to re-establish.
Borders, good cut flower.
