Wide spreading dense foliage making good ground cover. White or pink flowers followed by red berries. Very hardy native of cold climate areas of Europe, Asia and America.
Best in well drained, sandy, acid soils but will tolerate some lime. Salt tolerant and grows well near the sea. Very hardy.
The leaves are sometimes used as a medicinal herb for treating urinary tract infections, though care is needed as it can be toxic. Traditionally used by the Native Americans.
