Hardy annual. Semi-double flowerheads with layered orange petals backed by mahogany red. Hairy, aromatic leaves. Fairy tall growing with good straight stems.
Any well drained soil, even poor ones, in full sun or part shade. Dead-head to prolong flowering.
From seed sown in spring or autumn, usually in-situ.
Good cut flower.
Young leaves are edible in salads and petals may be used to make a tea. Flowers are also used as a dye and food colouring. Long history as a medicinal herb.
Attractive to insects.
