Hardy annual. Unusually coloured, semi-double flowerheads of pale apricot to creamy buff with dark red highlights. Hairy, aromatic leaves.
Any well drained soil, even poor ones, in full sun or part shade. Dead-head to prolong flowering.
From seed sown in spring or autumn, usually in-situ.
Borders, bedding, containers.
Young leaves are edible in salads and petals may be used to make a tea. Flowers are also used as a dye and food colouring. Long history as a medicinal herb.
Attractive to insects.
Very good companion plant, for example with potatoes.
