Medium sized tree with large, velvety, soft yellow leaves which are almost green by the time the white flowers open. Can be kept as a shrub by pruning which increases the size of the leaves.
Any reasonable soil but performs best in deep, moist loam. Strong winds can damage the leaves so a sheltered position is preferred. Tolerant of atmospheric pollution.
Prune to restrict size and produce larger leaves. May be successfully grown in a large tub.
Tends to be relatively short-lived, usually declining after about 50 years.
