Any aspect, preferably with some shade at the base. All clematis prefer alkaline soil but will normally tolerate other soil types. Requires regular supply of moisture. When planting, make the hole deeper than usual, as a precaution against Clematis wilt.
Prune hard back in late winter or early spring.
Semi-ripe cuttings in early summer. By layering in late winter or early spring.
Very good for climbing through trees and shrubs.
Raised by T. Cripps, United Kingdom and introduced in 1870. Probably a hybrid of C. 'Jackmanii' x C. lanuginosa.
