Leaves are edged with creamy yellow. Very fragrant purplish pink and white flowers start to appear in mid-winter. Reputedly hardier than the species but still needs a sheltered position. Slow growing.
Reasonably fertile, humus rich, moist soil, which is neither very acid nor alkaline, in full sun or part shade. Resents root disturbance once established.
By semi-ripe cuttings in late summer or early autumn - can be difficult to root.
