Mat-forming evergreen with basal rosettes of elliptic to lance-shaped green leaves, up to 3cm long. 5-petalled, deep blue flowers, usually with white throats, on short stems in spring and early summer.
Very similar to the species but perhaps rather more robust growing.
Moist, well-drained, gritty soil. Full sun or in areas with very hot, dry summer best in some shade. Likes alkaline conditions.
This is a commonly grown garden form of this species. There is some confusion over the naming as there is also a wild form called Gentiana verna ssp. angulosa.
