description:
Hortensia type, compact bushy habit with ovate, toothed, glossy dark green leaves. Mophead flowers, ranging from deep pink through purple to dark violet-blue, depending on the soil. Smaller growing than many other varieties but with rich flower colour.

cultivation:
Moist, well drained, reasonably fertile, humus-rich soil. Sun or part shade, preferably with shelter from cold, drying winds. May become chlorotic on very shallow chalky soil. Performs well in seaside locations.
The flower colour is influenced by the soil pH; acid soil, with a pH of less than 5.5, will generally produce blue flowers. A pH above this tends to produce pink flowers, or in some cases neutral soils result in off-white flowerheads.
