description:
Bushy evergreen subshrub, erect habit when young, spreading with age. Lance-shaped to narrowly ovate, somewhat leathery, toothed, deep green leaves, which are softly hairy underneath. Dense spikes of tubular, lipped, yellow-orange or brownish-orange flowers, mostly in summer. The upper lips have two lobes.

Frost tender. Moist, well drained, fertile loamy soil in a sheltered, shady position. Needs protection from cold temperatures and in cold locations is best grown in a conservatory or greenhouse.
