description:
Strong growing medium sized deciduous tree with ovate leaves. Large bowl-shaped fragrant flowers, up to 25cm across, white inside and light pink outside deepening to reddish pink at the bases. Flowers early to mid spring, followed in autumn by red fruits.
cultivation:
Prefer heavy, rich and moist lime free soil, but quite adaptable. A sheltered position, especially protection from early morning sun when frosts are likely will reduce the risk of damage to the flowers. Can be pruned after flowering or in July or August.
