Vigorous, spreading, small deciduous tree freely producing numerous smallish, slightly pink flushed, white flowers in spring.
Not too fussy about soil, moist, reasonably fertile, humus-rich, acid to neutral soil is ideal. Will thrive in heavy clay and tolerant of atmospheric pollution. Best with some protection from strong winds, in sun or part shade. Flower buds may suffer damage from hard frosts.
If required, prune unwanted or crossing branches when dormant in autumn or late winter to very early spring.
Hybrid of Magnolia kobus and Magnolia stellata, raised at Windsor from seed sent by Neil McEacharn of the Villa Taranto.
