Small suckering shrub with very distinctive, spineless, ovate or rounded, bluish-green leaves. Spikes of rich yellow flowers in spring, followed by blue-black berries.

Tolerant of a wide range of conditions but best in moist, well drained, moderately fertile, humus-rich soil in sun or part shade.
If required, trim or cut back after flowering.
