description:
Evergreen tree, lance-shaped dark green leaves with a silvery to reddish-brown indumentum on the undersides. Dense trusses of red, pink or white flowers, spotted with black inside, in early spring.

cultivation:
Sheltered, woodland location with lime-free soil. The white-flowered forms are the most hardy and those with red flowers are the most tender.

usage:
Suitable for large woodland gardens.
