Small white, often pink tinted, flowers in late winter to early spring, followed by black berries. Though not very showy, the flowers have a very strong sweet fragrance.
Moist, well-drained, humus-rich soil in a shady position. Tolerates quite dry conditions once established.
By division of rooted suckers.
Excellent groundcover for shady places. Worth planting for the sweet heady fragrance alone.
Native to the western Himalayas.
