Plant Base bug reports, problems and fixes
January 2010
A bug has been found that will cause an error message followed by sudden termination of the program. It happens during a plant record edit - when changing
the botanical name, immediately followed by a change of colour.
Workround:- Don't move directly from changing the botanical name to a colour selector. Before making colour changes - either first click on a text field such as Description, or save and re-edit the record.
This bug is fixed in version 1.6.1 (due soon).

Some users have encountered an error message when attempting to run the Plant Base Archiver. The message is "Error:3078 - The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot find the input table or query 'Outline'. Make sure it exists and that its name is spelled correctly" or sometimes just "Run time error: xx" (xx is usually 68 or 76). These only happen in certain circumstances, but have been encountered quite frequently.
To fix this problem please download this patch update:- DeeprootPB_160_patch.exe (577Kb)
Ensure that Plant Base is not running, then execute the patch file. It only takes a few seconds and the Archiver will then always behave normally. The patched Archive program is version 1.0.9.
This bug fix will be included in the next release.
July 2009
Over the last few months we have had several reports about a program error and crash when opening the References display. This only effects Vista users. It is caused by a recent Microsoft security patch, normally applied by auto-update. This requires a new version of a Microsoft grid component, MSFlexGrid, and blocks older ones. Unfortunately they did not include the new component version in the patch. Vista users that have auto-update disabled or do not regularly connect to the Internet, may not encounter the problem.
The issue can be resolved by manully installing a newer version of MsFlexGrid.ocx into the Windows system folder.
This is fixed in version 1.6.0 of Plant Base.
March 2009
There has been recent reports of a problem where the record grids on Selector Results and List Displays appear blank. We have actually seen this occur on one of our own systems. It is caused by one of the Microsoft component files that Plant Base uses being replaced by a new version. Unfortunately the new version does not appear to operate correctly or is incompatible with other Microsoft software used to build Plant Base. The under-lying records are not affected, only the display.
The offending file is DBGRID32.OCX, located in the Windows system folder (usually C:\WINDOWS\system32). The new version (not working) is 5.1.98.12, the previous version (working) is 5.1.81.4. The file may have been updated by a MIcrosoft patch or possibly by the installation of another product that uses it - we are investigating further.
The solution to the problem is to put back the working version. There are a several ways, but an easy method is to delete or rename the file, also its cache file DBGRID32.OCA, and then re-install Plant Base using just the "Program" set-up option.
The issue has so far only been reported on a small number of WinXP SP2 systems, though it may occur on others. It potentially affects all Plant Base versions.
This is resolved by the installation routine for Plant Base version 1.6.0.
