Fast growing evergreen tree, with feathery glaucous blue-green leaves. Sometimes appears as a large bushy shrub, especially in cooler area where growth has been cut-back in winter. Plumes of bright yellow flower heads from late winter into spring. Flattened seed pods follow.
Best in mild climate areas. Well drained soil in sun, drought tolerant once established. Can be slow to flower and may be cut back to ground in hard winters, but will usually re-grow quickly.
If required, prune after flowering. Can be pruned to make more tree-like or open. Alternatively the leader can be pruned out to create a more bushy habit. Remove any dead branches, which can be caused by excessive shade.
Native to southeastern Australia, but commonly seen in other areas with a mild Mediterranean type climate.
