Moist, well drained, fertile soil in sun or part shade. Needs a position sheltered from cold winds and late frosts, which can damage emerging foliage.
Prune if required, by removing dead or unwanted branches in late autumn to midwinter.
Quite slow growing, reaching about 2.5m in ten years.
By grafting in late winter, or bud-grafts in late summer.
