description:
Slow growing small tree, often multi-stemmed. Attractive palmate, fan-shaped leaves with 9 to 11 lobes. They are soft golden yellow flushed with orange-red, becoming more greenish yellow in summer. Very good autumn colours. Reputed to be stronger growing and more resilient than its parent 'Aureum'.
cultivation:
Moist, well drained, fertile soil in part shade. Will tolerate full sun in locations that are not too hot. Needs a position sheltered from cold winds and late frosts, which can damage emerging foliage.
Prune if required, by removing dead or unwanted branches in late autumn to midwinter.
propagation:
By grafting in late winter, or bud-grafts in late summer. Slow and tricky to propagate.
other notes:
Originated as a sport of Acer shirasawanum 'Aureum', raised at the Maplewood Nursery, Oregon the USA
