Variable evergreen with broad, arching, rather fleshy leaves. Tall stems carry large rounded umbels of tubular, white flowers, opening progressively from purple-tinged, greenish buds in late summer to early autumn.
Not very hardy in Britain, but will tolerate several degrees of frost if located in a favourable, well drained, position.
Must have good sunlight to flower successfully.
Prefers a light, very well drained soil.
From seed, sown as soon as ripe or in spring. Best left undisturbed in their first year. May take 2 or 3 years to produce flower.
