Large rosette-forming succulent, smaller than the species and slow growing. Thick fleshy leaves armed with sharp recurved spines around the edges, blue-green with a bold central white stripe. After many years mature plants may produce a tall stems bearing yellow-green flowers. The main plant will die after flowering, but it freely produces offsets, even from a young age.
A very attractive and sought after form.
Sharply drained soil in sun. Very tolerant of long periods of drought. Frost hardy in mild locations and when kept quite dry in winter, though less so than the species.
Only flowers in warm climates. Growth is much slower in cooler, temperate areas.
By separation of offsets, easy but fewer are produced and they are slower to establish than the species.
Containers, arid gardens in warm climate areas.
