Rosette forming succulent with a neat compact habit. Stiff glaucous blue-green leaves, edged and tipped by very sharp black spines. In suitable conditions will eventually produce a 2 metre high flowering stem, branched at the top and bearing violet-green flowers. May form bulbils on the stem, which grow into new plants when they fall to the ground.

Sharply drained soil in sun. Very tolerant of long periods of drought.
Monocarpic, usually taking 10 to 15 years to flower in the wild.

By the freely produces offsets. Also from seed or bulbils.
