Clump forming. with narrow green leaves, 5cm wide. Round umbels of mauve-lilac flowers, produced late in the season, in September and October.
Any lightish, well drained, moist to quite dry soil in full sun. Drought tolerant once established.
From seed or by division of bulb clusters.
Edible bulbs, leaves and young shoots, cooked or raw in salads.
Reputed to repel insects and moles, the juice has been used as a moth repellent.
Found in dry, usually rocky places, from Central Europe to Siberia.
