Large growing, forming a tall thick trunk and rosettes of spiky, fleshy grey green leaves. Branching stems carry panicles of orange-red flowers in summer.
Likes a well drained, gritty soil in full sun. Drought tolerant. Not hardy, but established plants will survive short periods below freezing and it will grow succesfully in mild Mediterranean type climates.
Small plants can be grown in containers for overwintering under glass.
Mediterranean and arid gardens, patio containers.
