Deep reddish-pink flowers in autumn. Fleshy, strap-shaped leaves developing after flowering.
Well drained fertile soil in full sun, with protection from hard frosts. Alternatively grow in a cool greenhouse in a free-draining, loam-based compost. Plant bulbs in late summer, just below the soil surface.
From bulb offsets, removed in spring.
This is the true Amaryllis, whereas bulbs commonly sold under this name actually belong to the Hippeastrum genus.
