Spreading perennial with knobbly tubers that will quickly spread to form large clumps. Irregularly lobed, palmate leaves. Flowers in spring, variable in colour from deep blue to pink or white. Many named varieties.
Prefers a light or sandy, humus-rich soil, preferably slightly alkaline. Sun or part shade. Plant tubers about 5cm deep.
By division of established clumps.
