Open, bushy evergreen of variable size. Oval or obovate, downy, greyish-green leaves. Peeling reddish-brown bark. Pendant clusters of small, urn-shaped, pink-flushed, white flowers followed by large, orange, edible fruits.
Tough plant, tolerant of drought and salt, thrives near the sea.
Good for coastal gardens. May be planted as a hedge.
Native of the Chaparral and old coastal sand dunes of California.
