Medium sized, upright shrub with slender stems, grown for its autumn leaf colour. Narrow pointed leaves which turn scarlet in autumn. Small white, five-petalled flowers in spring and small red fruits later. May spread by suckering.
Produces best autumn colouring when grown on neutral to acid soil. Tolerates dry to very wet, almost swampy, conditions.
