Very dense evergreen with small spiny dark green leaves. Young foliage is tinged bronzy red. Orange-yellow flowers in spring, followed by plum coloured berries. Neat, compact habit and smaller growing than the species.

Most well drained soils in sun or part shade. Reputed to be quite shade tolerant.

Front of borders, rock gardens.
Can be used for low hedging.
