Clumps of large oval mid-green leaves that become red-purple tinted in winter. Clusters of bright magenta pink flowers on erect reddish stems in mid and late spring. Neat growing habit.
Best in humus-rich, moist, well drained soil in full sun or partial shade. Will tolerate many conditions including poor soil and exposed positions, but dislikes extreme heat and drought. Divide and replant clumps every 3 to 5 years.
From sections of root rhizome, each with at least one leaf node or growing bud, preferably taken after flowering in late spring or in autumn. Plant in well drained soil or compost.
Similar to, perhaps even synonymous with Bergenia 'Eroica' ?
