Best in humus-rich, moist, well drained soil in full sun or partial shade. Will tolerate many conditions including poor soil and exposed positions, but dislikes extreme heat and drought. Divide and replant clumps every 3 to 5 years.
From seed, by division or sections of root rhizome, each with at least one leaf node or growing bud, preferably taken after flowering in late spring or in autumn. Plant in well drained soil or compost.
Makes effective ground cover in many situations.
From Tajikistan, Afghanistan and the western Himalayas.
