description:
Small shrubby, usually multi-stemmed, tree or large spreading shrub. Stout erect branched, spreading with age. Shining metallic buff coloured bark. Conspicuous, large pointed glossy winter buds opening to large corrugated, ovate leaves which turn yellow and yellow-brown in autumn. Brown-yellow male catkins in spring.

Moist, well drained soil in sun or light dappled shade. Likes sheltered, woodland type conditions.
