description:
Evergreen fern, spreading by creeping rhizomes which may become erect and trunk-like. Large pinnate, dark green leaves up to 1 metre long with long scaly-brown stalks. The sterile fronds have toothed leaflets while the fertile ones are linear or lance-shaped.

cultivation:
Lime-free, moist, humus-rich soil in part or full shade. A damp woodland situation is ideal.
