Evergreen shrub with gracefully arching stems and white or grey-woolly shoots. Narrow, lance-shaped deep green leaves up to 30cm long. Narrow tapering panicles of sweetly fragrant, creamy white flowers in late winter and early spring.
Fairly tender and needs a mild location with protection from severe frost, or best grown in a cool conservatory or greenhouse. Well drained soil in full sun or light shade.
Can be trained against a wall or other support.
Cut back after flowering to keep tidy and control size.
By seed, cuttings or layering.
Good fragrant plant for a conservatory or very sheltered location.
Native to the Himalayas and South East Asia, naturalised in some other areas, e.g Hawaii.
