Relatively dwarf, compact habit. Lanceolate, grey-green leaves. Freely produced panicles of deep violet-blue flowers in summer.
Very tolerant of poor conditions. Best in well drained soil and full sun. Reputed to be particularly hardy.
Prune hard to control size, shape and encourage fresh flowering growth. Best done in early spring, but additional partial pruning can be done after flowering in autumn to prevent winter wind damage.
From semi-ripe cuttings in summer or hardwood cuttings in winter.
Excellent variety for smaller gardens.
Attractive to butterflies.
Bred by Elizabeth Keep, East Malling, UK, and introduced by Nottcut's Nursery in 2003.
One of the "English Butterfly" cultivars, named after butterflies - in this case Adonis Blue, Polyommatus bellargus, which is a beautiful species of chalk downlands.
