Compact evergreen, often of arching habit, with narrow, sharply pointed, mid to dark green leaves densely arranged around the stems. Greenish yellow "bottle-brush" flower spikes in mid and late summer.
Well drained, preferably neutral to acid soil in full sun. Dislikes shallow chalky soils. Needs a warm position with protection from severe winter frosts, such as at the base of a sunny wall.
Prune after flowering, cutting back to healthy sideshoots. Extensive pruning should be spread over several years.
Can be successfully trained as a wall shrub.
From seed, though seedlings may not come true, or from semi-ripe cuttings in summer.
