Marginal water or bog plant. Generally larger all round than C. palustris, with particularly large yellow flowers in spring. The flowers have just 5 or 6 sepals. Rounded, thick, dark green leaves.
Fertile, wet, boggy soil in sun or part shade. Can be planted as a pond marginal in very shallow water, to a depth of up to 15cm, or preferably at the water's edge .
Often incorrectly sold as Caltha polypetala, which is a smaller species.
