description:
Vigorous woody climber for mild locations. Can be reluctant to flower unless in a warm position, but may produce clusters of large, tubular orange-red flowers followed by pod-like capsules of winged seeds. Pinnate leaves with 7 to 11 toothed leaflets.

cultivation:
Fertile, well drained soil and a sunny protected site. Needs a warm summer to flower well. Reputedly much hardier in continental type climates, where it also may become invasive.
Prune in spring.

propagation:
By seed, semi-ripe cuttings in summer or layering.
