description:
Tall growing rhizomatous perennial with very large, banana-like ovate to lance-shaped green leaves. Pendulous panicles of deep red-pink flowers from midsummer.

cultivation:
Best in a fertile, humus-rich soil with frequent watering during the growing season. Full sun or a little shade for part of the day. The rootstock is frost hardy to a few degrees and can be left outside in mild areas. Alternatively in cold areas may be lifted and stored for the winter.

By division of the rhizomes or seed,

usage:
Exotic appearance, good for sub-tropical plantings. Can be container grown for conservatories.
