description:
Bulbous perennial which takes several years to mature and flower, after which it dies although leaving behind offsets which form new plants. Tall strong stems carry spectacular large trumpet shaped flowers, creamy-white with maroon stripes inside. Large, glossy green basal leaves.
Flowering stems vary in height from 1.5 to 4 metres.

cultivation:
Bulbs should be planted in partially shaded, sheltered site with rich, moist but well-drained soil. Will not tolerate drought.
May take 4 to 5 years to flower from offsets or 7 years from seed.

propagation:
From basal offsets or seed.

usage:
Interesting and dramatic feature plant for borders.
