Medium sized tree or sometimes grown as a large shrub. Very large heart-shaped variegated leaves of mid green with broad irregular greenish yellow margins, becoming greener by late season. Large panicles of white flowers with yellow and purple markings in the throats, produced in midsummer and may be followed by long seed pods.
The leaves are much more yellow-green than "Variegata'.
Any reasonable soil but performs best in deep, moist loam. Strong winds can damage the leaves so a sheltered position is preferred. Tolerant of atmospheric pollution.
Prune to restrict size and produce larger leaves. May be successfully grown in a large tub.
Tends to be relatively short-lived, usually declining after about 50 years.
Fairly rare. May or may not be the same as Catalpa bignoniodes 'Koehnei'?
