A striking form of this European annual with blue-green fleshy foliage, steely deep blue bracts and small tubular, nodding, blue-purple flowers. Usually flowers from May to July, sometimes later. Produces quite large seeds in late summer or autumn and will quite often self-seed freely if the conditions are suitable.
Prefers reasonably moist, well drained loamy or light sandy soil but will grow in well cultivated clay soils. Full sun or part shade. Fairly hardy and self-sown seedlings will usually survive through winter.
From seed sown in spring or autumn.
Borders, attractive to wildlife.
