Low spreading habit. Freely produced large crimson flowers, in spring just as the leaves emerge. Rounded, apple-like, yellow fruits follow later.
Any reasonably fertile, well drained soil in sun or part shade. Flowers and fruits best in sun.
Easiest by layering or separation of rooted suckers if available. Alternatively from hardwood cuttings (one year old shoots).
Very effective when trained against a wall.
Raised at Rowallane, County Down, in 1920.
