Early flowering climber with thin dark reddish stems and attractive divided, toothed, mid-green leaves. Solitary semi-double lavender-blue flowers with cream centres from spring to early summer, produced on previous year's growth. Silvery seed heads follow.

Moist, but well-drained soil in sun or semi-shade. Very hardy. All clematis prefer alkaline soil but will normally tolerate other soil types. Requires regular supply of moisture.
When planting, make the hole deeper than usual, as a precaution against Clematis wilt.
Prune lightly after flowering.
