description:
Large ,leathery, pointed evergreen leaves, quite unlike most other clematis species. Clusters of small creamy-white flowers with a sweet almond scent, in early spring. Young leaves are copper coloured. Vigorous grower once established.

cultivation:
All clematis prefer a moist, alkaline soil but will normally tolerate other soil types. Needs a sunny, preferably sheltered position. May be damaged by severe frost. Established plants are more tolerant of periods of drought than other Clematis species.

Prune after flowering (group 1).

propagation:
Semi-ripe cuttings in early summer. By layering in late winter or early spring.
