Well known for its sprays of very fragrant small bell shaped flowers held over quite large pointed oval shaped leaves. If the conditions suit, it will spread vigorously by underground rhizomes once established. Foliage can make good ground cover in woodland situations.
Fertile, humus-rich, moist soil in part or full shade.
From seed or by division
Woodland gardens, shady borders and under trees and shrubs.
Medicinal herb, used for heart problems, similar in effect to Digitalis though possibly slightly less toxic.
