Palm-like tree with long, pointed leaves growing from the main trunk or sparse, upright branches. Mature trees bear tiny large panicles of creamy-white flowers followed by white or blue-tinted berries.

Reasonably fertile, well drained soil in sun or part shade. Needs a fairly warm location but is now regarded as quite frost hardy and has succeeded in many parts of Southern Britain. Thrives in coastal areas.

Good focal plant and ideal for a Mediterranean or exotic style planting. Performs well in mild coastal locations where it can make an effective street tree.
Can also be successfully grown in containers.
