Palm-like tree, slow growing, usually with a short thick single trunk, sometimes branching or producing multiple stems. Large narrow lanceolate leaves attractively striped with multiple colours, green, yellow, cream, pink and purple. Mature plants may produce white, mauve, or purplish flowers followed by clusters of bright red berries.
Moist, well drained fertile soil in part shade or a sunnier position in cool climates. Needs a warm location or winter protction. Can be grown as a conservatory or house plant and stood outside in summer.
Cutting back the main stem hard will encourage muttiple stems.
